Our Purpose

Empowering a movement towards a just, equitable and sustainable world for all.

The need for a collective action.

Change doesn’t just require urgent action. It needs you, us and everyone to come together to learn, upskill, share perspectives, take action and co-create solutions to our global injustices as one. It needs a common vision, a common understanding of our world, and a common framework that guides our collective thinking and actions in a coherent and effective way.

And that’s exactly why Newkind exists.

We draw together experts, academics, students, First Nations Australians, changemakers and professionals from a diverse range of specialities and experiences to give participants a holistic understanding of our interconnected global issues, combined with effective actions in order to create deep, lasting systemic change.

Our History

Newkind was launched by Erfan Daliri in 2016 as a way to bring together changemakers from around the world to inspire and empower more effective efforts for social change. The first few Newkind events were held on the lands of the Palawa/Pakana in Lutruwita (Tasmania) and were fully off-grid, run on 100% renewable energy, completely plant-based, zero-waste, drug and alcohol-free, not-for-profit and volunteer-run.

Since then, Newkind has maintained its leading-edge in social change advocacy and remained true to its roots as an authentic movement for justice, equity and social impact, whilst not losing sight of the principles of sustainable and equitable event design.

In 2021, Newkind was held on the lands of the Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung peoples of the South-East Kulin Nations in Naarm (Melbourne). The format of the conference shifted to a hybrid experience, with participants attending both online and in person at RMIT University.

Newkind has and always will be a not-for-profit event, with a core belief that financial means should not be a barrier to gaining knowledge, education and feeling a part of a community. As part of this, hundreds of free registrations are made available every year, and a Pay What You Can ticketing model is available as well.

Furthermore, as a way of paying respect and acknowledging the fact that we are living and meeting on First Nations land, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants are invited to register free of charge.
